SERVICES

This is legal liability coverage designed to defend you in the event that someone else’s horse is injured or dies while in your care. If a negligence suit is brought against you, the burden of proof lies on the suing party and your CCC policy will cover your defense costs. If you are then proven negligent, your CCC coverage will pay the medical care or replacement cost of the horse up to the coverage limits. Various policy limits are available on a per horse/per year basis.

If you trailer non-owned horses, this is essential insurance. If you are transporting a horse owned by someone else and are involved in a vehicular accident deemed to be your fault, you could be held legally responsible for the injury or death to the horse you are hauling. You should also consider this coverage if you board, train, or breed horses for others. (Care Custody & Control is not available if you are a commercial carrier.)

This coverage can be purchased alone or added to your commercial liability policy.

This policy is custom designed to meet the insurance needs of today’s horse farm owner. The farm policy offers both flexibility and broad protection at a competitive price. Whether you operate your horse farm as an individual, partnership, or a corporation we can tailor make the necessary insurance protection.

Coverage is available for all of your different types of farm structures. From the dwelling you live in, including your contents and personal property, to your barns and other farm outbuildings. Also, you can talk to your agent about insuring other types of property such as jewelry, furs and antiques which require special attention. We offer you a broad range of coverage choices, from the basic coverage of named perils protection to a special all risk protection which is the most comprehensive coverage that we offer.

The farm policy recognizes that many people not only work on their farm, but live there. Therefore, in addition to covering the farm operation, the policy can be tailor made to handle the needed protection for a homeowner or family who also lives on a horse farm.

The farm policy will also insure you against farm liability up to the stated limits of the policy. Coverage is available for small individual operators or commercial equine operations with policy limits up to $1,000,000*. When a person is injured or someone else’s property is damaged as a result of your farm activities we will, subject to the exclusions in the policy, settle claims for which you are legally liable. Most equine operations are eligible, including but not limited to show, personal use, boarding, training, breeding and riding instruction operation facilities.

Certain exclusions and limitations apply to the Farm policy so please refer to the policy itself for more information. This material is not the policy itself and it is designed only to describe its contents. It is important to discuss all the coverage provided and exclusions contained in the policy with your agent before purchasing any insurance plan.

The equine industry consists of many unique liability exposures that many standard homeowner and farm owner insurance policies typically exclude or severely restrict. Our liability program for horse owners can provide the necessary legal liability protection for most horse related operations. It will provide the protection you need arising out of your horse business. It is intended for the amateur or the professional. It can be designed for a small two horse operation or it can cover a large breeding farm. Coverage is available for small individual operators or large commercial equine operations with policy limits of up to $1,000,000.

Regardless of the size of your operation, you’ll be insured for your legal liabilities up to the limits stated in the policy. When a person is injured or property damaged as a result of your equine operations we will, subject to the exclusions in the policy, settle claims for which you are legally liable. In addition to this, we will make sure you are defended in lawsuits whether substantial or groundless and in most cases pay for all court costs and judgments, subject to the limitations and exclusions stated in the policy. Whether your activities involve riding instructions, breeding, racing, showing, boarding, pleasure activities or training, we can custom design a policy to fit your liability needs.

Certain exclusions and limitations apply to the Horse Owner’s General Liability policy so please refer to the policy itself for more information. This material is not the policy itself and it is designed only to describe its contents. Full Mortality– Mortality Insurance is a “life insurance” policy for your horse, with the owner of the horse the beneficiary.

There are 2 types of this coverage.  1) Specified Perils and 2) All Risk or Full Mortality Coverage

Specified Perils (Fire, Lightning, Transportation, and Windstorm) coverage starts as soon as coverage is bound.  An examination of the horse is not required. It does NOT cover the most frequent causes of death – colic, other sicknesses, diseases or injuries.

Full Mortality coverage provides coverage against death from all risks, subject to exclusions, occurring during the policy period.

For horses with values over US $50,000, this coverage cannot begin without an acceptable vet certificate, as deemed by the Insurance Carrier.  Horses under that amount would need a signed Statement of Health from the principle caregiver of the horse.

For horses bought at public auction and bound by the carrier for “Fall of the Hammer”, a vet exam is not needed.  Reason being that Underwriters feel that the owners have already done a “pre-purchase” exam of the horse at the sale, which generally is more detailed than a standard insurance exam.

These policies are an annual policies, but can be written for a longer period should the Underwriter deem it necessary.

Other coverages available include, but are not limited to:

Prospective Foal
Stallion Availability
Stallion Permanent Disability
NG Season Conversion
Transit
First Season Infertility
Loss of Use

If you have a standard Homeowners Policy, your liability coverage may not extend to incidents involving your horse.  Most Homeowners Policies provide coverage for your personal liability only.  The Private Horse Owners Policy provides protection for bodily injury or property damage caused by your horse ownership.  This policy provides coverage for the horse owner who is not involved in any other equine professional activity and does not operate their horse ownership as a business.

We have a specially designed liability policy to cover the unique liability exposures of Race Horse Owners for injury or damage caused by the horses. Individuals, partnerships, corporations and syndicates which own racing stock (including stallions at stud, broodmares and yearlings) but are not directly involved in breeding, training or racing (i.e. contract with independent trainers, breeding farms) are eligible. Owners should obtain certificates of insurance from the independent contractors to assure adequate protection. Prices are very competitive with liability limits to $1,000,000.

The coverage of this policy is designed to insure you for your legal liability up to the limits of the policy. When a person is injured or property is damaged as a result of activities involving the horse or horses you own we will, subject to the exclusions in the policy, settle claims for which you are legally liable, including defense costs.

Certain exclusions and limitations apply to the Race Horse Owner’s Liability policy so please refer to the policy itself for more information. Even though you already have liability insurance, an Umbrella policy may be essential to protect you from a large catastrophic loss. In today’s litigious society court awarded damages continue to rise dramatically. Our Umbrella provides excess coverage over and above the limits of your other liability policy or policies. So if your liability limit is used up, your Umbrella policy will take over and continue to pay for damages you are legally required to pay up to the limit of the Umbrella policy itself which could range from $1,000,000 to $5,000,000. The Umbrella policy does not take the place of any of your existing liability coverage. It merely gives you added coverage on top of those existing policies. The Umbrella policy is especially important for those individuals, partnerships or corporations that have large financial investments at stake in their horse operation. Typically, your Umbrella policy will give you excess liability protection on top of your general liability, personal liability, automobile liability and employers liability policies. In certain situations you may have need of excess liability protection over boats or other pleasure craft that you own.

The Umbrella policy will cover you when a person is injured or property damaged as a result of your farm or horse operations subject to the exclusions in the underlying policies and your Umbrella policy.

Certain exclusions and limitations apply to the Umbrella policy so please refer to the policy itself for more information. This material is not the policy itself and it is designed only to describe its contents. It is important to discuss all the coverage provided and exclusions contained in the policy with your agent before purchasing any insurance plan.
